History
Atia is the youngest of two children in the Chase family. Her brother, Kalem, was seven years older than her. The two of them grew up in poverty - both parents worked full time, juggling two to three jobs each but were barely able to make enough for their family to live off. Since their parents were rarely home due to work Atia was taken care of by her brother. Despite the fact that she never saw her parents she wasn’t unhappy. Kalem was there with her and would always give her a gentle smile. In all honesty he was quite the doting older brother despite their financial standing. Once he was old enough to get a job he went to work at a clothes factory to earn money - he made sure not to be out too much so he could spend time with Atia. He would use the money he earned to buy his sister nicer clothes, better food, and toys. He would also bring her scraps of cloth, thread, and needles so that Atia could learn to sew. With this Atia experimented until she could successfully make her own clothing and stuffed animals, and gifts for her brother, too, of course. With her older brother by her side Atia felt no sadness, she felt like the happiest girl on earth.

One day when Atia, age eleven, was walking home from District U after a nice afternoon of window shopping a drunk truck driver lost control of his truck. The truck swerved violently off the road and onto the sidewalk where Atia was walking, shattering her right arm and leaving her heavily injured. She had to be hospitalized for several weeks but eventually made a full recovery - a full recovery aside from her shattered arm. Atia’s right arm was damaged beyond repair. The only way she would be able to gain use of her arm again was to get a prosthetic, but her family didn’t have the money to pay for one. The hospital bill alone was financially devastating for the Chase’s.

The once happy little girl became extremely depressed with the loss of her arm. She was unable to sew with only one functioning arm and it became hard to do things by herself. After a few months, Kalem, unable to stand the sadness in his beloved sister’s eyes, seeks out a way to get money to pay for a prosthetic arm. He ends up involving himself with a shady organization, getting a loan to buy a decent prosthetic arm for his sister. He was told he had a year to pay back the loan and, though he doubted he’d be able to make that much money, accepted. With the money he received he bought the best prosthetic arm that he could and took Atia to undergo the procedure to have it attached. After the arm was successfully connected Atia’s smile came back. She was both overjoyed to be able to make use of both her hands again and grateful from the bottom of her heart that her brother did such a thing for her.

Life returned to normal after that; Atia stayed at home sewing clothes and dolls or took walks to District M or U and Kalem worked and provided her with occasional gifts. The only difference was the fact that every once in a while a scary looking man would appear at the door asking for her brother. He would leave as soon as Atia opened the door but if Kalem was there the two of them would go outside for a while before Kalem returned with a worried expression on his face. If Atia asked what was wrong he would simply say that it was just a door to door salesman and that there was nothing to worry about. Atia trusted her brother so she would nod and believe him without a doubt. But nothing was alright...

A year had passed; Atia was now twelve and Kalem had just turned nineteen. The two siblings were having lunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon when there was a knock at the door. Kalem got up to answer it, Atia following closely behind him. She figured it was another one of those pesky men that came to the door and, sure enough, it was. As usual Kalem went out with him, shutting the door behind him. Atia watched from the window, expecting them to talk for a little while before Kalem returned inside but this time Kalem walked away with the man. Curious, Atia opened the front door and followed after her brother and the scary looking man. She followed them quietly through dark alley and empty streets until they went inside a warehouse. After waiting a few moments she crept to the open door and peeked inside. It was quiet, scarily quiet. As her eyes adjusted to the darkness she made out figures inside the dark warehouse - there were many men in hats and trench coats like the ones that would visit their home standing around what looked like her brother. The little girl was beginning to get scared. What was her brother doing in a place like this surrounded by a bunch of scary men?

Then there was not one but several gun shots. Atia crouched down and covered her ears in fright, eyes closed tight until all was quiet again. When she looked up again she saw a pool of red, her brother laying lifeless in the middle of it. The warehouse smelt of gunpowder as the men put their guns away and began walking out the back entrance. One man stayed behind a few moments longer, sneering before he left.

"That's what happens to those who can't pay back their debt on time."

Atia sat on the ground at the door, staring at her brother's corpse and the red blood covering the floor. She couldn't take her eyes away. She didn't want to believe any of this was real. After sitting there with her eyes transfixed on her brother's lifeless body she shook her head and ran home as fast as her fragile legs could carry her, locking the door as she got inside and curling up in the corner of her room with the lights off. She rocked back and forth, wishing and hoping that everything she had just witnessed was just a bad dream. Looking at her desk she saw scraps of red ribbon, the sight of it sickened her and she quickly threw it in the trash so she wouldn't be able to see it anymore.

Days turned to weeks and weeks to months as Atia quietly sat in her room. The few times her parents were home they would leave her food - they had no time to mourn their son's death but they weren't going to let their remaining child starve to death since she wouldn't leave her room.

One day, when both her parents managed to get a day off to spend with her, there was a knock at the door. Atia sat on her bed in her room, her mother next to her stroking her head when her father brought a suited man into the room. With a simple nod to the mother the two parents left the room, leaving the man alone with Atia. Atia barely glanced at the man before asking, "Are you a bad guy...?" He shook his head and told her that he knew what she was going through. Told her the same thing had happened to him and that he understood her pain. Atia didn't really care if he'd gone through the same thing. It wouldn't bring her brother back to her. But his offer intrigued her.

"We can get rid of the people that killed your brother."

Atia accepted without hesitation and the man left. Sitting on her bed in silence for a while, Atia decided it was time to move forward and become stronger. She took the red ribbon out of the trash and fastened it to a robot bunny toy her brother had bought her for her birthday the year before and clutched it to her chest.

"I'll get rid of all the bad guys so that no one has to suffer anymore."

Miscellaneous
-Atia always carries a robot bunny toy with her. Its name is Kalemv2 after her brother.
-Atia dyes her hair red using a variety of crushed plants since she doesn't have the money to afford real dye.
-She only dresses in red and black to symbolize her strong will and as a reminder of her brother's death.
-Even though she isn't Asian she refers to older males (not adults) as "oniichan" because her brother would bring home Japanese cartoons to watch from time to time.
-She dislikes and is afraid of all animals except for rabbits because animals bite.
